Breaking Barriers: How NATICC is Empowering Out-of-School Youth for a Brighter Future

NATICC successfully hosted two impactful out-of-school youth events in the Matsanjeni and Zombodze Emuva constituencies. Both events were held at central constituency venues (Tinkhundla centres) to minimize transportation barriers, ensuring accessibility for youth across all chiefdoms.

Addressing Critical Youth Challenges

The events aimed to tackle pressing issues such as:

  • Unemployment and its far-reaching impacts
  • Dependency syndrome
  • Mental health struggles
  • The link between unemployment and gender-based violence (GBV)

A total of 263 young people participated across both constituencies, gaining valuable insights and resources

Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration for Holistic Support

NATICC partnered with key organizations to provide diverse opportunities in entrepreneurship, life skills, and personal development. Participating stakeholders included:

By bringing these organizations directly to the youth, NATICC ensured that attendees could easily access information, resources, and support.

Leadership and Advocacy Against GBV

The Matsanjeni event was graced by NATICC Executive Director Mr. Sisekelo Nzima, while the Zombodze Emuva event was attended by Program Manager Mr. Kenneth Makhanya. Both leaders emphasized the urgent need to address gender-based violence, noting that young people are both victims and perpetrators of GBV. They encouraged attendees to seize every opportunity, reminding them that “opportunity knocks but once”.

A Motivational Call to Action

Guest speaker Mr. Mkhonta from NASTIC delivered an inspiring speech on:

Developing an “eagle’s mindset” – focused, determined, and capable of overcoming challenges.

Mindset change

Optimism and resilience

Youth Voices: Real Impact, Real Aspirations

Several participants shared their feedback:

Siphiwe Mkhonta (21, Mahlambi) was deeply moved by Mr. Mkhonta’s talk on mindset shifts. She plans to pursue baking and sewing to start her own business, citing unemployment as a key motivator. She also suggested earlier event mobilization for greater reach.

Mthokozisi Mahlaba (33, Zombodze) expressed interest in agricultural entrepreneurship after engaging with NAMBOARD. He now seeks help in developing a business plan to access youth funding.

The Way Forward

These events mark a critical step in empowering out-of-school youth with skills, opportunities, and motivation. NATICC remains committed to fostering sustainable change through collaboration, mentorship, and actionable support.
