Sexual Offences and Domestic Violene Act
The Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act, 2018, which is commonly called “SODV”, is a law passed by the Parliament of the Kingdom of Eswatini. This law started operating in August 2018.The purpose of the law is to address matters related to Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence in Eswatini. The Act therefore, aims to strengthen the response to GBV by:
- Preventing abuse.
- Increasing reporting of abuse.
- Protecting Victims / survivors by ensuring they are properly cared for when abuse is reported and that they are supported before, during and after a court case.
- strengthening the different structures (such as police, courts, hospitals and organizations) that deal with abuse cases.
- Making sure abusers are brought before justice.
